The Lyllye Reynolds-Parker Black Cultural Center Scholarship Fund

The Lyllye Reynolds-Parker Black Cultural Center Scholarship Fund will provide scholarship awards to students at the University of Oregon, to support the continuation of enrollment or degree completion.

The University of Oregon will organize a scholarship committee, convened by the Coordinator of the Lyllye Reynolds-Parker Black Cultural Center in the Office of the Dean of Students, that will include faculty and staff from the Center for Multicultural Academic Excellence, Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies and Black Studies departments, and/or the greater UO community.

Individual awards will range between $1,000-$6,000 and be made available to students who demonstrate exceptional volunteer service to the Lyllye Reynolds-Parker Black Cultural Center; participate in the Umoja Residential Community/Academic Residential Community; and/or pursue a minor in UO’s Black Studies or Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies Program.

Eligibility – Qualified applicants will:

  • Apply for admission to the University of Oregon OR be a currently enrolled University of Oregon student in good academic standing with no conduct violations;
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and commitment to their communities and the Black community;
  • Exhibit academic achievement as evidenced by a 2.5-grade point average or higher; and
  • Meet the LRP-BCC scholarship deadlines.
    Important Notes:
  • Class standing is based on earned credits.
  • Scholarships are NOT automatically renewable.
  • Students are eligible to apply each year.

Selection Criteria – Scholarship recipients are selected by the LRP Black Cultural Center Scholarship selection committee based on the following:

  • Past academic performance
  • Participation in campus or community activities
  • An individual’s ability to contribute to the Black community
    * Preference is given to:*
  • Domestic Non-Resident Students
  • Students with financial need as defined by federal and state guidelines
  • First-generation College Students (first in their immediate family to attend college)
